As the Financial Education Field matures, there are more organizations and individuals involved or interested in providing financial education. As the field has become more crowded, quality assurance has become more challenging. Identifying and adopting standards for the provision of financial education provides a means to ensure quality by establishing as important a certain core set of knowledge and skills–core competencies.
The Financial Stability Partnership of Alabama is proposing to establish core competencies for financial education for the State of Alabama. There will be two sets developed:
Set 1: Core competencies for the general public—what Alabamans should know to be financially literate.
Set 2: Core competencies for financial education providers—linked to the competencies for the general public, these core competencies will provide specific guidance on financial and training (how to provide education in a way that is effective and engaging) and coaching information and skills for providers of financial education.
The purpose of this webinar is to review a preliminary draft of these proposed core competencies, provide input into this draft, and discuss the pros and cons of the training and resources planned to support these core competencies.
Feedback, input, ideas and questions from the webinars will not only inform the process, but also shape it.
