Dollar$-to-Donut$ with Stephen Black

Regional CPA firm Warren Averett was the gracious host of CAFEC’s second quarterly Dollar$ to Donut$ breakfast event on Thursday, January 19, 2012 in BIrmingham.  The invitation from Warren Averett came through former chair of the Alabama Society of CPAs Marlene McCain, a member (partner) of the firm.  Staff member Vanna Zimmerman opened their beautiful training facility for an engaging and thought-provoking presentation by Stephen Black, Director of the University of Alabama’s Center for Ethics & Social Responsibility.  The audience of professionals and leaders in business and community organizations heard Mr. Black discuss the SaveFirst tax initiative of Impact Alabama as well as innovative concepts in saving and other financial education programs.

In particular, Mr. Black shared how his own work with students has given them windows into lives unlike their own and also caused them to commit to performing meaningful service.  He sees initiatives like SaveFirst as offering significant dollar savings to needy communities, recognition and communication of key concepts of financial literacy, and the emergence of a socially-responsible group of active advocates and practitioners transmitting the message, tools, concern and assistance of financial fundamentals to more people and communities – a result that will continue to have far-reaching impact for our state and nation.
